Chicago Cubs Promote Jack Neely to Replace Héctor Neris on Roster
Neely Steps into Closer Role After Neris's Struggles
Neris Demoted to Triple-A Iowa, Neely's Contract Selected from Triple-A
The Chicago Cubs have made a significant roster move, promoting right-handed pitcher Jack Neely from Triple-A Iowa to fill the void left by veteran reliever Héctor Neris.
Neris, who had served as the Cubs' closer, has struggled to find consistency this season. In 52 appearances, he went 8-4 with a 3.89 ERA and 44 strikeouts but also recorded 12 blown saves.
Neely, acquired from the New York Yankees for reliever Mark Leiter Jr. in April, has impressed in his time with Iowa. He has a 3.00 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched at Triple-A.
Neris's Roster Spot to Be Filled by Neely's Promotion
Neris's demotion to Triple-A Iowa creates an opening on the Cubs' 40-man roster, which will be filled by Neely's promotion.
The move is a sign of the Cubs' confidence in Neely's ability to step into the closer role and provide a more reliable option for the team.
